Weather information is not a guarantee

Forecasts are predictions, and predictions are wrong sometimes. The data on this site comes from the National Weather Service and is presented as issued, but neither we nor NOAA can promise that a forecast will verify. Use the information for planning, not for decisions where an error would be dangerous or expensive.

For severe or life-threatening weather, this site is the wrong last line of defense. Rely on Wireless Emergency Alerts, a NOAA Weather Radio, and the instructions of your local emergency management officials. Where anything here conflicts with an official warning or an evacuation order, follow the official instruction.

Do not use this site for aviation, marine navigation, commercial agriculture, construction scheduling or any other activity where weather is a safety-critical input. Those uses require official products, including terminal aerodrome forecasts and marine zone forecasts, obtained directly from the National Weather Service.

The calculators are estimates

Every calculator uses a published formula, and each page names the formula and states the conditions it assumes. Those assumptions matter: the heat index assumes shade and a light breeze, wind chill assumes an adult face at walking pace, and the sunburn estimate uses average threshold doses that vary widely between individuals.

Results are estimates for general information. They are not medical advice, not occupational safety guidance, and not a substitute for professional judgment. If you are managing heat exposure for workers or athletes, use the protocols your governing body or OSHA requires. If you have a health condition or take medication that affects heat or cold tolerance, talk to a clinician rather than a web page.

Using our content

The written guides, calculator explanations and site design are our own work and are protected by copyright. You may quote short passages with a link back. You may not republish whole pages, or reproduce the guides in bulk, without permission.

The underlying weather data from the National Weather Service and the location data from the US Census Bureau are both in the public domain and carry no restriction from us. If that data is what you want, take it from the source rather than from us — you will get it fresher.

Automated scraping of this site is not permitted. The National Weather Service API is free and open, and hitting it directly is both faster for you and fairer to us.

Availability

We do not promise the site will be available without interruption. It depends on hosting we do not control and on an external API that occasionally goes down for maintenance. When the National Weather Service does not respond, forecast sections will say so; the written guides and the calculators continue to work, because they do not depend on it.

Limitation of liability

The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site or from reliance on anything on it, including decisions made on the basis of a forecast, an alert or a calculator result.

Advertising and external links

This site displays advertising, including through Google AdSense. We do not choose individual ads and do not endorse the products in them. Links to external sites are provided as references; we are not responsible for their content or their practices.

Changes

These terms may change, and the date at the top will be updated when they do. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms. If something here is unclear, the contact form is the place to ask.
